How things have changed coming back to school.

 Today is our first time back at school ever since lock down which is around 3 months.At first I was a bit anxious and paranoid but now that I am back at school I feel more confident about coming back to school.What do i think about coming back to school?I personally like coming back to school because I feel like I am more productive and I complete more school work then I would at home.At school there are new changes put in place to be more hygienic and also to help stop the possibility's of catching covid-19 or the delta virus.Some of the changes are wearing masks , social distancing and finishing school earlier.What are my thoughts about the changes?I sometimes forget about the changes and get annoyed about wearing a mask but I personally like the changes because it has good benefits that would help us students and staff not catch Covid and also to be safe in level 3 stage 2.

Tokelau - Social studies

What do I think should be done to help the people of Tokelau ? 

I think that people should hold work shops for people to get the opportunity to learn how to speak Tokelauan. I also think that people should spreed more awareness about Tokelau being at risk.I believe that if more people would learn how to speak Tokelauan then the language can continue to spread and it won't be at risk.

Aim - Understand that people move between places and how this has consequences for the people and the places.

On Sunday August the 1st Jacinda Ardern put a mat over her head asking for forgiveness.She wanted to ask for forgiveness because of what happened in the 1970s where police men would go to random Polynesian houses at dawn and take people who were over stayers.They would go to different houses and ask for proof that the people living in the houses were legal in New Zealand.If they weren't legal the police men would put the "over stayers" and their white van and make them catch the next flight to what country they came from.This is known as the dawn raids and the dawn raid has impacted a lot of the older generation and has left them traumatized and in pain.I think that it was very thoughtful of Jacinda Ardern asking for forgiveness and apologising for what has happened. The police men would know who was a over stayer by looking at there visa.

Jacinda Ardern held a Ifoga (forgiveness ceremony).A Ifoga is where the person asking for forgiveness puts a mat over there head and if they other person forgives them the will remove the mat from there head.

Examine onion cell slide

Today in science we had a practical experiment where we got to look at onion slides.

Equipment

The equipment you will need for this practical are Onion ,forceps ,knife, iodine ,cutting board ,microscope, cover slip ,slide and Dye

Method

1.First we got a cutting board and knife and cut the onion into 1/4.

2. Then each group got 1/4 each and we got the first layer of the onion.

3.Then we used our forceps to peel of a thin layer of the onion cells.

4.Then we put the layer of onion cells onto a slide.

5.Once we put the onion layer of cells onto the slide we put a few drops of iodine and dye onto the slide.

6.Once the iodine and dye was on the slide we put on the cover slip.

7.Then we let the slide sit for 1 minute.

9.Once that was done we put our slide underneath the microscope and took a look at the cells.

Parliament

 3 things I learnt about parliament

They are different ways people can become government.

You get to vote who do you want as your government.

Some people used to chose people who where stronger/richer to become government.

Yr 9 Camp

On Monday the 24 of May Year 9 went on camp at Camp Adair. We all woke up packed our bags and went to school before 8:00am. Then we all got onto the bus around 8:30 the bus ride was about 1hr long.Once we got to camp we packed our bags into our cabins and made our beds.Once we did that we had some morning tea and went to our first activity.

 Our first activity was rock climbing , rock climbing was one of my favourite activity.I enjoyed rock climbing because we got to challenge our self and chose a point to get to and I enjoyed it because I went past the point that I challenged myself to get to.

Then we went to our next activity which was chariots.At chariots we would get given some peaces of wood and then we would have to create a chariot where we could pull someone across a little obstacle course.

One of the most challenging activity was the confidence course. The confidence course was challenging because most of the activity that we did at the confidence course contained mud and it was also cold so that is why I found the confidence course the most challenging. One advice I would give for the year 9s going camp next is to bring clothes and shoes that you don't care about for the confidence course.

Ecosystem

 In science our new topic is ecosystems.In this blog post I will be telling you guys about the different things we learnt in our science class.

Producers , consumers and decomposers.

Producers are living organisms that can produce its own food.Consumers are food that eat other living organisms to get energy. Decomposers are insects or fungi that eat non-living organisms to put the nutrients from the non-living organism into the soil.

Carnivores , Omnivores and herbivores

Carnivores are organisms that eat other meat to have nutrients.Omnivores are organisms that eat meat and plants.Herbivores are organisms that only eat plants.

Food chain and Food web.

Food chain is a chain that continues a example of a food chain.Food chains always start with a plant.First the grasshopper eats the grass and then the frog eats the grass hopper then a snake eats the frog then a hawk eats the snake and that's the end of the food chain.A food web is like a food chain BUT a food web starts with one organism and more that one organism can eat the first organism.It also when more than one organism hunts another organism.

Social studies

  Today in social studies we played a game that contained team work , communication and creativity/imagination.For this game you would need to get into teams of 3-5.Once you are in your group you would need a piece of paper and you will need to divide that piece of paper into 4.On the top left corner you would have to draw what the island you are stranded on will look like.You can add anything into your paper.Then you would have to have everyone in your team chose what job they would do on the island in order to survive.Example someone can hunt for food someone can pick fruits and someone can make shelter.Then after that you would need to go to another group and see what they have and try and trade some things from off your paper.Then after that we answered some verbal questions and then the game was finished.I enjoyed this game because you got a chance to communicate with your class mates and you got use your creativity/imagination.

Hungary

This is mine and my groups Hungary presentation for social studies.We had to do research a migrant group we chose to do Hungary.We chose to research Hungary because it is a migrant group that we don't really know much of.I enjoyed doing this task because we all had a chance to speck and research about Hungary.What went well in our presentation was everything we all had our turn to speck and we all had a part in the presentation.

Lava lamp - Science

 Aim: Make your own Lava Lamp

Material: vinegar, Sodium bicarbonate, Citric acid, Oil, Food Colouring, Water, empty Water bottle.

Method: 1. Add colouring in 50 ml of water in a beaker.

                2. Pour the coloured water into an empty water bottle.

                3. Add vinegar and make the bottle half-filled.

                4. Add vegetable oil up to the bottleneck ( close to the top).

                5. Add sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.

Result: 

In the science lab we made lava lamps.We made lava lamps using 50mls of water , food colouring ,vinegar ,vegetable oil ,sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.First we got a empty water bottle and then we got some water and put some food colouring in.After that we got vegetable oil and put it into the water.Then we got sodium bicarbonate and citric acid and put some into the water bottle. That's how we made our own lava lamp.We also reached the aim and made a lava lamp.

Layers of earth

In science we learnt about the different layers of earth. The crust is the thinnest layer of earth.The mantle is the thickest layer of earth. The mantle is the layer under the crust.Then under the mantle is the outer core.The outer core is a liquid.Under the outer core is the inner core the inner core is the hottest layer of earth.The inner core is a solid because of the pressure of the other layers on top.

Volcanoes

In science our new topic is all about volcanoes.A volcano is an opening in the earth's crust.The liquid the comes out of the volcano is called lava.But when the liquid is under ground it is called magma.The top of the volcano is called the crater.The part in the middle of the volcano is called the main vent.The main vent is the part where the magma goes to reach the surface. Mauna loa is the largest volcano on earth and it is located in Hawaii.Hawaii is mainly made up of volcanoes.In Auckland there is 53 volcanoes 50 of them is active.

In social studies we have been learning about 3 different migrations theory.One theory shows that Polynesians come from Hawaiiki. Some people left there island in Hawaiiki to prove their theory that Polynesians came from Hawaiiki. Some people also escaped because of warfare.When they left the island of Hawaiiki there canoe landed at north-east coast of Rēkohu. Another theory said that Polynesians come from south america.One way that they got evidence was by looking at kumara. The last theory says that Polynesians come from Asia. They believe that Polynesians come from Asia is because they were looking at la-pita pottery and they also found la-pita pottery in other Polynesian islands.  The theory that I believe is that Polynesians came from Asia because Asia has more connections with Polynesians and Asia also has more evidence.

Social studies

 In Social studies we watched a video about two people named Oscar and Nathen. Oscar and Nathen were on a journey to find out there place of origin.They started there journey by taking a swab test and sending it to oxford.When they got their results they went to Mahia the place where Nathen grew up.When the got to Mahia they were welcomed with a Powhiri .After the Powhiri Oscar , Nathen and Nathens parents gathered around to open Nathens results for his swab test. Nathens results show that his Mum is from America and Nathens dad is a descendent of Maui. Then they went to their second destination which is Rarotonga. They went to Rarotonga to see the 7 stones and to learn more about the Maori culture. After they visited Cook island they went to Samoa to open Oscars results. Before they opened Oscars results they went to church because church is a very important thing for Oscars family.Then Oscar opened his result and it showed that he is that his maternal descendant of Ina in East Eur Asia.Then they went to Vanuatu where they looked at la pita poetry .After that the arrived at there last destination which is Taiwan.In Taiwan they met someone named Niwa and they went with Niwa to a museum that is all about Taiwan history.Then they talked about the two different cultures and they compared they also ate some rat meat.
