School assembly

Today was the first day of term 3 which means we had a school assembly.The whole school theme for this term was A World of different people.Each team had a chance to say , show or act out something that had to do with the topic of this term.

Mr Burt was the first person to say , show or act out something about our new topic.Mr Burt had a table behind him full of hats and wigs.He told where the different hats where from and something about the hat.The hat that got my attention the most was the hat he got from Canada it had the Canadian flag on and it was the shape of a maple leaf.His bag that he puts his hats in caught my eye too because it was over 100 years old.

After Mr Burt Mr Jacobson was the next person to say , show or act out something about our new topic. Mr Jacobson came on the stage wearing a traditional Scotland dress.He also told us how the different pattern on the dresses shows what tribe you come from.He also told us that the dress he was wearing was his great grandpa's and was over 100 years old.He said that his great grandpa was wearing the dress in world war 1 at the time his great grandpa was a teenager.Mr Jacobson also said that the dress he was wearing is called a kilt.

Next was Mr Somerville , Mr Somerville didn't know much about his family history before the holidays.Then him and his sister went to his Aunty house and found a whole book about his family history.Over the holidays he read the book and found out that his family was nights and lords. He also found out he was the 3rd generation to be born in New Zealand.

After Mr Somerville team 1 had their movie about this terms topic.They had a movie that talked about how different country do things at school (example how do different countries get to school)

After team 1 there was team 2 , team 2 made a video that was similar to Dora.They made Dora explore around New Zealand .They made the map help them find there way from Auckland to Queenstown .They wanted to go to Queenstown to see the snow .

Next was team 3 ,Team 3 made a video similar to the amazing race.They travelled all sorts of countries around the world to find the different clues . Unfortunately Miss King lost and came last.

Next was team 4 , team 4 made a video talking about where different foods come from.They made a video of them eating lunch and finding out where the different lunches come from.

After team 4 there was team 5 , Team 5 acted out a Samoan Myth and legend that is very well known in New Zealand.They acted out Sina and the eel .Mrs Ilaoa was acting as Sina and Mrs Tele'a was acting as the eel.In this myths and legends the eel told Sina about how he was once a prince and he loved Sina so much and gave Sina gifts.But Sina didn't like the eel back sometimes Sina would be scared and run away from the eel.Then one day she told her uncle and her cousin  and her uncle cut the eels head off.Where the eels head was there grew a beautiful coconut tree. Sina would eat the coconut and see the eels face which is known as the 3 holes on the coconut.
